Luxury car manufacturer Volvo Cars is a worldwide company based in Sweden, owned by Volvo Car AB. The headquarters of Volvo are in Torslanda, Gothenburg. The company makes sedans, SUVs, and station wagons. The primary focus of the company’s marketing is on safety, as well as its Swedish heritage and design.
Since 1999, when AB Volvo sold its automotive division to Ford Motor Company for US$6.47 billion, Volvo Cars has operated independently of its former parent firm, AB Volvo, which produced among other things, big vehicles, buses, and construction equipment. Ford sold Volvo Cars to Geely Holding on March 28, 2010, at a loss, for a sum of $1.8 billion; the sale was finalized in August 2010. In 2021, Volvo Cars became a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange; nonetheless, the predominant ownership remains with Geely Holding. The Volvo Museum is jointly managed by AB Volvo and Volvo Cars, and both companies share the Volvo emblem.
In addition to 50% of NOVO Energy (electric vehicle batteries), 100% of Zenseact (AD and ADAS software), and 100% of HaleyTek (Android-based entertainment systems), Volvo Cars also owns 48.3% of Polestar and 30% of Lynk & Co. By 2022, Volvo Cars will have production facilities in Daqing, China, Ghent, Belgium, Ridgeville, South Carolina, and Torslanda, Sweden.
▶History of the Volvo Logo 🌞
1927–1930

The company’s name is displayed in printed, serif-style characters on the original logo. “Volvo” is displayed in the top row (center). It has either entirely fused letters or letters that are nearly in contact with the edges. The words “Gothenburg, Sweden” are at the bottom. It’s framed in thin print and hangs on a long ribbon. The text is enclosed in a golden-bordered cobalt oval.
1930–2021

Thanks to its big rectangular serifs and contrastingly thickened sections of the letters, the Volvo wordmark looks impressive. The font looks like a combination of Jeff Levine Fonts’ Newsprint JNL Wide Regular and Decal JNL Regular. For the brand name to be seen on autos, all glyphs are in upper case.
1930–1959

A dynamic logo consisting of a circle, a longitudinal line, and an arrow pointing right and up first surfaced in 1930. Three thin lines on the left are separated by a wide strip that features the word “Volvo” and runs through the center ring.
1959-1970

The foundation of this logo is a white circle that is split in half by a light blue horizontal stripe. The white word “VOLVO” is contained in the center line that joins the two sides of the blue ring that forms the frame. The classic arrow, composed of a square and a triangle, is located in the upper right corner.
1970–1999

The image, which is derived from the 1930 logo, resembles an empty circle with an arrow surrounded by thin lines on both sides. An additional oval plate has the name of the company in the center.
1999–2013

The previous insignia is stylized in the current one. Its creators gave it convex edges, a metalized appearance, and volume. The 3D effect is supported by gradients, highlights, and shadows. In the center, the word “Volvo” is written in white on an oblong blue background.
2013–2014

The texture was the developers’ main priority in this edition. The circle now has a silver chrome color instead of graphite, giving the impression that it is a component of the car’s rim or another area. There are a lot of specular and light highlights in this logo. The text panel has a border that is dark grey in color.
2014–2021

The round band that formed a ring was narrowed and the arrow was given additional curl. The inscription was inserted between the circle’s left and right sides, deepening the plate. This version’s color scheme is more cohesive and far less complicated, with no gradients or reflected surfaces. The inner top of the ring is the sole area where there is a faint dark shadow. With the exception of the background for the phrase “Volvo,” everything else is light grey.
2021–Present

The “shield and spear of Mars” are becoming harder to identify as a result of the evolution of the Volvo logo. The circular frame, which was usually intact, now had an empty space between them. And it was split from the arrow that had blended with the ring. It is now sunken down to the precise location of the hole. The name of the car brand is normally written inside the central white circle, but the letters lack the typical quadrangular basis. The word is painted in black, not the most intense color, as are the geometric parts.
