Polkadot is a cryptocurrency and blockchain platform. The DOT is the native coin of the Polkadot blockchain. Its purpose is to enable communication and transactions across blockchains without needing a reliable intermediary. As a result, the Polkadot Network makes it possible to transfer assets or data between blockchains and create decentralized apps. Gavin Wood, Robert Habermeier, and Peter Czaban—three co-founders of Ethereum—created the protocol, which raised approximately $144.3 million during its initial coin offering in October 2017.
A further $43 million was raised in 2019 through another private sale. Wood published the Polkadot white paper in 2016. The first block of Polkadot was made available in May 2020. Its native token, the DOT, was made available together with the Genesis block launch.

The Polkadot logotype’s nameplate is written to the right of a token that is a circular signature made up of six ovals. The designers chose pink, black, and white as the brand’s colours. The token’s colour is pink. It’s eye-catching and unique. When there is a background, white is used. It can take up the entire backdrop or, if the logo elements are over black, the space between them. Lastly, there is a black name.
