The Chinese multinational company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (ZGH), also referred to as Geely Holding has its headquarters located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Chinese businessman Li Shufu is the company’s private owner. Its primary business is the automobile sector.
Originally established in 1986 as a manufacturer of refrigerator parts, Geely moved on to produce motorcycles in 1994 and cars in 1997. The holding company ZGH was established in 2003. In the 2023 Fortune Global 500 ranking of the biggest businesses in the world, the company is ranked 225 as of 2023. The company manufactured 2.79 million automobiles worldwide in 2023, 980,000 of which were plug-in electric vehicles.
The company produces and markets automobiles under the Geely and Lynk & Co. brands, which are a part of the Geely Auto Group business unit. It also produces commercial vehicles under the London EV Company, Radar Auto, and Farizon brands, in addition to vehicles under the Zeekr, Volvo Cars, Polestar, Proton, Smart, and Lotus brands. In addition, it controls half of Horse Powertrain, a joint venture with Renault that manufactures engines and possesses a 17% share in Aston Martin.
The company’s original name, Geely, is a phonetic transcription of its Chinese meaning, “auspicious” or “propitious”.
▶History of the Geely Logo 🌞
1986–1998

Several red geometric components made up the previous Geely emblem, which was designed in the 1980s. Its foundation was a big oval that was horizontal. Stripes extended upwards from it at an angle of about 45 degrees towards the right. Because they were arranged in a triangle, their lengths varied. Li Shufu intended the logo to resemble the silhouette of a mountain peak, symbolizing the Taichow landscape, the location of the company’s founding. Given that the mountains provided shelter from harsh winds and sandstorms, this was seen as a sign of strength and assurance. Geely has high quality, safety, comfort, durability, reliability, and low prices.
1998–2014

Geely required a new logo when it first began producing automobiles. A mid-1980s symbol served as the model for the design. The initial design used six different-length stripes on a red oval to create a triangle shape. Since mountains rose all around the city where he started Geely, Li Shufu intended the drawing to resemble a silhouette of a mountain peak. One way to think of diagonal lines is as stages leading to the pinnacle of progress. Additionally, their number was regarded as a potent lucky charm.
In light of all of this, the holding company’s owner chose to retain the customary logo. All the designers did was repaint it white and set it inside a big silver-outlined blue oval. A silver ring frame and a blue stripe with the word “GEELY” at the top were used to outline the main components.
Although it was used as a corporate logo, early Geely Auto models manufactured between 1998 and 2007 had this logo. It looked a lot like the Volvo Car brand, even though the Chinese holding firm didn’t purchase this brand until 2010. To expand internationally, the corporation most likely stole someone else’s design, whether on purpose or accidentally.
2008–2014

2008 saw the Gleagle name used to market certain Geely Auto products. Its logo was two open rings, one oval and one round. They blended together to form a single figure, like a pupil and an eye. A little hook that was stylized to resemble a part of the Chinese character sprang out from above. The illustration resembled a genuine vehicle ornament, appearing three-dimensional and metallic.
2010–2014

Another Geely Auto subsidiary, Emgrand, debuted in 2010. The design, which included a coat of arms separated into colored portions, was very similar to the Cadillac brand name. The only model resembling automobile radiator grilles in shape was the Emgrand. Six rounded-sided polygons—three red and the same number black—were included within. They were divided by a grid of light brown lines. The gold frame was on the outside. To give the drawing a three-dimensional appearance, the designers included a gradient.
2014–2019

Sub-brands of Geely Auto were combined into the new Geely brand in 2013. The Emgrand logo was retained by the designers, but the color scheme was altered. They applied a new coat of dark golden paint to the grid, added grey accents to the black ones, and substituted blue polygons for the red ones. The six-piece rimmed shield retained the classic Cadillac symbol’s appearance despite the change. The light blue word “GEELY,” which was similar to the 1998–2014 symbol inscription, was underneath the image.
2019–2023

The makeover resulted in an extended logo with a silver border. The black and blue tones are not as vivid as they once were. The gradient has become more natural and smooth, adding depth to the image. The developers painted both phrases grey and enlarged the letters to read “GEELY AUTO.” With the inclusion of next-generation technologies in cars, all these modifications signaled the brand’s entry into a new creative sphere.
2023–Present

The streamlined Geely emblem resembles a Cheshire Cat smile rather than a vehicle grille. To mark the start of a new era of technology products, the designers repainted every segment in a single hue. The brand name now appears at the bottom of the letters. The word “GEELY” occupied all available space and grew once more, just like it did on the 2014–2019 symbol. A slight alteration has been made to the flex font, giving both “Es” a straight upper corner. The company’s transparency is shown by the black-and-white color scheme.
