Founded in 1971, Century 21 Real Estate LLC is an American franchise company for real estate agents. With over 147,000 sales professionals, the system comprises over 14,000 independently owned and run franchised broker offices spread throughout 86 countries and territories globally. Century 21 Real Estate’s main office is located in Madison, New Jersey. Two real estate brokers, Art Bartlett and Marsh Fisher, formed Century 21 Real Estate in Orange County, California, in 1971.
Here, Bartlett describes their process for choosing the name: During a brainstorming session over lunch with my former vice president, I mentioned that the name ought to have a long-standing tone. My former vice president recommended 20th Century Realty. I had assumed that getting the name registered would be impossible. I wasn’t comfortable with his saying 21st Realty. “How about Century 21?” he then asked. Even though it seemed futuristic, I enjoyed it.
When I informed Marsh over the phone, he thought it was too futuristic. Green Valley was what he desired. Trans World Corporation purchased Century 21 in 1979 after deciding to concentrate on housing and hotels. MetLife purchased Century 21 from Trans World Corporation in 1985. In 1995, after MetLife made the decision to exit the housing market, Century 21 was purchased by Hospitality Franchise Systems. Following Cendant’s 2006 split, Century 21 joined Realogy, now known as Anywhere Real Estate.

1971-1991

The primary focus of the text-graphic symbol is the sphere of activity of the company. The big “Century” inscription is covered by an illustration of an oddly shaped building. It comprises three sections: a garage, a residential dwelling, and an arched entryway. It has a flat roof. Although there are distinct design components in each part, they are all depicted by a single, continuous line. The “y” leg was designed to be diagonal in order to include the number “2 aesthetically”.
1991-2018

After the Century 21 emblem was updated, the inscription kept its original typeface; however, it became bolder. The result is that the letters seem bigger and a little bit thicker. However, little of the previous version remained, so the drawing underwent major revisions. Three geometric elements occurred: a triangle representing a gabled roof, a short vertical column, and a long horizontal line. The logo also now includes the colour yellow.
2018-Present

2018 saw the introduction of a dramatic rebranding of the real estate site by designers. There were no recognizable elements in the emblem; everything was flexible. The numbers were lowered, the real estate symbol was dropped, and the developers eliminated the rounded font with diagonal curves.
