1973-1985

Three red lines with curled ends completed the first word mark. They were center-aligned and placed above the blue text “WELLPOINT.” The designers used a font with lengthy serifs to make it unique. The differing stroke thicknesses brought about a sense of motion. All the characters were written in upper case, although “W” and “P” were positioned marginally higher than the other letters.
1985-2012

The company transformed its brand identity and emblem in 2014. The sole word “Anthem” stands alone without additional graphical aspects. The remaining characters now appear in smaller case, with sole exception of the initial “A” retaining its larger depiction. Blue has not been replaced; somewhat, it has evolved into a novel shade.
